Surrounded by a rich hinterland of tropical rainforests and waterfalls, Townsville is close to historic gold mining towns, the outback, islands, and of course, the Great Barrier Reef. Established in 1913, Home Hill is linked to its larger neighbour by the famous Burdekin Bridge, the district’s best-known landmark. The old gold mining settlement town of Ravenswood is tucked away amongst the nearby rolling hills.

Once Queensland’s second largest city, Charters Towers flourished during the bustling gold boom of the late 1800’s. With history jumping out from every corner, the town now has numerous historic centres, museums and a historic world theatre, as well as being home to one of the first regional Stock Exchanges built in 1888.
