South Coast

From the south of Sydney’s Royal National Park to Eden near the Victorian border can be found more than 30 national parks, marine playground and reserves. Beach culture and a rich Aboriginal history, unfolds in a series of bays and coves and little townships known for their interesting histories as well as their fine food and wines, and great country markets.

Wollongong and Surrounds, the State’s third largest city, has reinvented itself as a beautiful weekend escape, just one hour’s drive south of Sydney. Take the spectacular Grand Pacific Drive to Kiama Shellharbour and Surrounds and soak up emerald green farmland and a string of dazzling beaches. Further down, travellers will find a majestic stretch of coast backed by forests at Jervis Bay, Shoalhaven and Surrounds.

Famous for its river estuaries, craggy headlands and wildlife, Batemans Bay, Eurobodalla and Surrounds are just four hours drive south of Sydney where tourists can explore the regions many historic villages or relax in cafs, wander through craft galleries and snap up local artworks. Bega, Sapphire Coast and Surrounds is renowned for award-winning cheeses at Bega, deep-sea fishing off Bermagui, whale watching at Eden, and a rich Aboriginal cultural heritage around Wallaga Lake.
